July 30thwill kick off our 2012-2013 season. This will bring in a few new ways of doing/looking at things, but it will not change the quality of lessons you have come to expect of us. Hopefully these changes will create more ease and better communication for all of our students, parents, and staff of The Dancing Tree. We are not making changes to the way the lessons are taught, but we are changing the way we communicate our expectations, requirements, and needs.
The first change you will notice may be our calendar. Instead of sharing with you only our short quarterly expectations, we will be sharing with you the entire season we have planned. This may help people to plan easier, and know when things are happening months in advanced.
The Yearly Season will be split into three sessions, a Fall Semester, a Spring Semester, and the Summer programs. We will still continue to have a fall, winter, and spring break. And we will offer special classes over the summer for students who will be in town June and July.
The Fall Semester runs from July 30, 2012 thru December 15, 2012 with a fall break in October and a week off for Thanksgiving. During this semester the focus of the classes (but not limited to) will be learning how to dance and the techniques involved in the particular discipline they are working on. The semester will end with participating in the Kona Christmas Parade. This will not be mandatory, but a portion of their class time after the fall break will be spent getting ready for the parade. This will also be a free event, and all students are encouraged to participate. We did this last year, and it was so much fun for all of us.
The Spring Semester runs January 7, 2013 thru June 8, 2013 with a spring break in March. During this semester the focus of the classes (but still including technique) will be working on choreography and performance skills, in preparation for the end of the season Student Showcase. The Student Showcase is not mandatory, but to be included all commitments (attendance and financial) and all deadlines must be met by student. The Showcase is an important part of dance education. It helps students understand why they have spent so many hours working and practicing technique, and to experience their art-form in the manner it was intended.
The summer programs will vary, but the focus of summer is often fun and exploration, and possibly preparation for the coming season.
Another big change is that we are expanding. We will be adding a second studio for private lessons and small group classes. We are also going to be able to have a retail area for dancewear, and a small café for lite snacks before and after classes. We are planning to have this all up and running for the start of our Fall Semester. On July 28th, we’ll have an Open House and a celebration for the grand opening of the new additions.
The final change you may notice is our payments options. We will be switching to a monthly payment plan option, and hope to be able to offer credit card payments and on-line registration very soon. We will be updating the website as more details become finalized. If you have any questions in the mean time feel free to contact us at 808-990-1417 or thedancingtree@ymail.com
Sincerely,
Seatree Osage
